John McKayThe Honorable John McKay is the United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington. He previously was a litigation partner of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky; managing partner of Cairncross & Hempelmann; national President of the Legal Services Corporation (ejm.lsc.gov); and aide to Congressman Joel Pritchard.

He has served both the WSBA and the ABA in high-level positions, and received WSBA's Award of Merit and Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year. He also chaired Washington's Equal Justice Coalition (www.ejc.org).

Amanda LeeAmanda Lee - Before she was a lawyer, she was a rocket scientist. She helped design space vehicles and advanced radar systems. She was Editor-In-Chief of the Washington Law Review, and served as a law clerk to United States District Judge John Coughenour and to Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Robert Beezer.

Amanda now combines her legal and scientific background as a criminal defense lawyer at Schroeter Goldmark & Bender, where she focuses on health fraud, environmental, high tech and other complex criminal cases. She also serves as a Director of the Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Joel Cunningham is a leading plaintiffs' lawyer, with numerous record verdicts to his name; and he is one of the few who have previously specialized in civil defense work.

Carl Grant is a professional poker player who teaches ethics (among other things). He is also a professional speaker and comedian, and holds a degree in English/Speech and an M.A. in Philosophy. He has appeared on national television and radio shows, and trained attorneys across the nation.

Thomas Hillier II has practiced for 30 years, exclusively as a criminal defense lawyer. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. In 1982, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals appointed Tom the Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Washington. He speaks, trains and testifies in many legal and legislative venues, and is a prolific contributor to criminal defense treatises.

In 2000 Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist appointed Tom to the Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Evidence. Tom has argued before the United States Supreme Court, and has appeared many times before the Ninth Circuit. He has received both WACDL's and the ACLU's William O. Douglas Awards; WSBA's Angelo Petruss Award; and the Gonzaga Law Medal.
 

Maria SotirhosMaria Sotirhos is a litigator with Bullivant Houser Bailey www.bullivant.com).

She has handled a wide variety of cases, with special emphasis on insurance defense.

Her ethical/philosophical interests stem (only in part) from her degree in political science.
 

Patrice Johnston is an experienced litigator, having started her career as a commercial litigator (with Bogle & Gates); and then moving to family law. She is a gifted speaker, and is highly focused in her search for correct and creative solutions to difficult disputes. Before she attended law school, Pat was an aide to United States Senator Slade Gorton.

Egil (Bud) Krogh is a Seattle attorney who specializes in energy law. He worked in the Nixon White House and served a prison sentence. He was readmitted to the bar with the help of Bill Dwyer, and he now devotes significant time to helping improve legal ethics.

Adam KarpAdam Karp was founder and first Chair of the WSBA Animal Law Section, and remains an officer. He is devoted to protecting higher animals from unnecessary pain, suffering, and hastened death. He is an adjunct professor of law at both Seattle University and the University of Washington.

He is editor of the new Animal Welfare & Law Enforcement Professionals report (www.animallegalreports.com), and he speaks and gives interviews widely. His website, www.animal-lawyer.com, provides many links to animal law sites.
 

Bob Klein practices at McNaul Ebel Nawrot Helgren & Vance. He is experienced in both litigation and transactional practice. He is a volunteer advocate for low-income clients at the Northwest Justice Project (www.nwjustice.org).
